Sugar Maple
(Acer Saccarum)

Brilliant yellow and red fall color. The name is form the sweet sap tapped in the spring to make maple. Extremely strong, hard wood. Life span can exceed 200 years. There are several, better adapted, sugar maple cultivars, such as "Legacy" that are better suited for South Dakota. Should be planted in acidic, moist, well-drained soils.
