Common Honeylocust
(Gleditsia triacanthos)
A fast-growing medium tree adapted to a wide variety of soils, including
alkaline soils. Native to SE South Dakota. Tought and adaptable. May produce
brown seed pods and/or thorns.
Crown Height - 30 to 50 feet
Crown Width - 30 to 40 feet
Root System - Shallow, vigorous, grass-feeding root system. Can cause
sidewalks to heave and buckle.
Susceptible to drought, winter stem dieback, sunscald injury and chlorosis
affted by genetic variability and original seed source. Full sun.
